at step 5 you say “Create a coupon by following the steps above with the same ad tracking ID as the ‘Coupon code’.” and that’s where I get tripped up. how do I use the tracking ID in a coupon code and get them to sync.

I must be misunderstanding this.

When coupons are setup and you use a % off for the coupon, the shopping cart will calculate the tax on the full price. However, if you change the coupon to be a specific dollar price off, then it will calculate the correct amount of tax based on the new discounted price.

So in short, change it from a percentage off, to a specific dollar amount and this should take care of your issue.

How do you have the coupons setup? Are they product, category or order based?

Once I have a little more information I think I can set you on the right path from going crazy.

for me, right now, coupons are activated against the entire amount (product cost, shipping, taxes) but I only want a discount on the retail of my products. I cannot find the option to alter the timing and I am slowly (quickly?) going crazy.

Are you talking about creating single “user” coupons? If so, there is not a way to import coupons. So unfortunately the only way around this would be to create one coupon at a time.
