Affiliate Love: Credit Specific Affiliates With Sales of Specific Products

Author: Tyler Sorensen

>>>Before we start, make sure your Affiliate Program inside your 1ShoppingCart account is 100% setup correctly by clicking here.<<<

Do you want some of your affiliates to receive commissions on ALL sales of a particular product?

If so, you should know what an “affiliate parameter” is.

A great example of when this would come in handy is if you have a specific page on your website setup directly for a specific affiliate.

Let’s say ‘Affiliate A’ has a specific landing page on your site to drive his customers and his customers only.

Example: http://www.yoursite.com/AffiliateA.html.

This affiliate deserves all the credit for sales driven to this page, so you would add the “affiliate parameter” to the end of each product link on that page.

An affiliate parameter allows you to mark every single sale of a certain product as having been referred by a specific affiliate.

It’s easy to implement: just add it to the end of the product link.

The affiliate parameter is:

&afid=XXXXXX

where XXXXXX represents the ID of the affiliate you would like to give credit to.

Just take your existing product link and add the affiliate parameter to the end of it!

It’s that easy!

1ShoppingCart and Paypal Issue

Author: Tyler Sorensen

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

I got a call the other day from one of my clients, and before they had even said a word I could tell something wasn’t right. My suspicions were confirmed when the first words out of their mouth were “We have a problem!”

And when this is one of your highest paying clients you listen. Here was the situation.

This client has downloadable products and A LOT OF THEM. Someone had ordered almost every single one of their products and the total came to nearly $846.

The customer paid via PayPal and used an E-check. Guess what my client had setup inside his shopping cart? They had the “Instantly Accept PayPal E-Check Orders” checked which means the customer immediately receives all the product downloads, before the transaction has processed.

3 days later a friendly email from PayPal arrives saying the E-Check was declined and now the client is out $846.  At least until they can track this person down and try and recoup their money, which may or may not be successful…

So how do you avoid being in this same situation? The answer is simple, set up your shopping cart to avoid this situation in the first place. (No more than 5 minutes after getting the email from PayPal my client had taken these same steps)

Here’s how you do that:

  1. Login to your shopping cart account
  2. Scroll over “Setup” and click “Gateway Setup”
  3. Make sure “Instantly Accept PayPal E-Check Orders:” is UNCHECKED
  4. Click “Save Changes”

The good news is that 1ShoppingCart handles using PayPal E-Checks for an order seamlessly, and will automatically change the order status from “pending” to “accepted” once the E-Check clears.

E-Checks can take up to 7 days to clear, so it’s important to let the customer know this after they order. This will cut down on customer service requests asking where their order is. I accomplish this by adding the following to my Thank-You page and email confirmation:

“**If your order was paid via PayPal and you used E-Check as your payment method you order will NOT be completed until the E-Check has cleared. E-Check transactions can take up to 7 days depending on your bank.”

Hope this helps!

P.S. If you don’t have Paypal enabled as a payment option I highly recommend testing it. For one of my clients it increased overall sales by 18%. Some people consider Paypal “Play Money” and spend it more easily.

Update Customer Credit Cards

Author: Tyler Sorensen

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Some companies don’t make it easy for you to update your credit card information.

As a customer, if I have to purchase a product, make a phone call, or click through multiple Web page links to enter my new credit info, I say, forget it, it’s not worth the hassle.

And I’m certainly not sending my sensitive information in an e-mail!

On the flip side, as a business owner, while I may lose sales because of outdated credit info, I lose money paying customer support specialists to take down credit card numbers. And if my method of updating credit info is not secure, I lose the most precious thing of all:

Credibility with my customers.

Is there a solution?

I’m happy to report that there is. If you need a customer to update his or her credit card information, all you need to do is set up a FREE product in your shopping cart and redirect them to that shopping cart address.

That’s right, it’s a win-win situation: You update your customers’ credit card information, while they receive a newsletter, e-mail seminar, or other product absolutely free!

Your customers now have an incentive to update their information–with the added comfort of knowing their input is secure–while you maintain up-to-date records without the hassles of hiring extra customer service reps.

It’s that easy.

Subscribe Clients To Multiple Autoresponders

Author: Tyler Sorensen

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

E-zines, newsletters, e-mail series. All are smart, effective marketing tools, but signing up takes time and effort, especially since most opt-in forms are designed to subscribe your clients to only a SINGLE autoresponder for a specific purpose.

But wouldn’t it be great if there were a way to have that same opt-in form subscribe your clients to MULTIPLE autoresponders at the same time?

Thanks to 1ShoppingCart, now there is — and it takes just three easy steps!

First, look for the following line in the form code (where “XXXXX” is the current autoresponder ID):

<input name=”defaultar” type=”hidden” id=”defaultar” value=”XXXXX”>

This line tells the form which autoresponder to subscribe your clients to. In order to allow for a multiple-autoresponder subscription:

  1. Delete any instances of the word “default.”
  2. Copy and paste the line to add as many autoresponders as you wish.
  3. Update the ID for each autoresponder.

For example, let’s say you wanted to subscribe your clients to three separate autoresponders after they fill out your opt-in form. Your form code would contain the following:

<input name=”ar” type=”hidden” id=”ar” value=”XXXXX”>
<input name=”ar” type=”hidden” id=”ar” value=”YYYYY”>
<input name=”ar” type=”hidden” id=”ar” value=”ZZZZZ”>

In this example, you’ll notice:

  1. Any reference to the word “default” has been deleted.
  2. Three duplicates of the line have been created in order to allow for three autoresponders.
  3. “XXXXX”, “YYYYY” and “ZZZZZ” represent the three updated autoresponder IDs, which you can get from 1ShoppingCart.

In this example we listed three autoresponders, but using this simple method, you can easily subscribe your clients to two, five, or more!

It’s an easy, effective, smart way to get the most out of your marketing materials.

Setting Up A Product For Free – Pros And Cons

Author: Tyler Sorensen

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Have you seen all the offers for free trials of products posted all over the web?

Why do you think this is? The answer is simple. The conversion rates of these offers are through the roof. We just got done testing this offer for one of my clients who receives over 1,000 unique visitors a day and it doubled his conversions.

Yes, you read that correctly, DOUBLED his conversions!

However, there are a few issues with setting up a product for free, especially if it’s a downloadable product and you don’t charge shipping.

If the initial purchase is for free or $0.00, 1ShoppingCart will not send this transaction to the gateway for verification. So someone could put in a false credit card and they will receive your product and when the time comes to charge the credit card after the free trial it will come up declined and you are out the money!

However, there are two options around this.

  1. You can change the offer to a $1 offer… We call it the “Try It For A Buck” offer. For this the card will be charged $1. This still pulls better than a normal full price offer, however it doesn’t convert as high as the free offer. There is something psychological that triggers in the buyers mind if the word free is presented. So for this offer the card will be charged 1.00, then charged the remainder at the end of the trial.
  2. If you ship products, run a free offer and then charge shipping. This way the product is free but 1ShoppingCart will charge the shipping and you can verify the credit card is valid.

In fact, the second option is exactly how we setup the offer which just recently doubled our conversions.

Hope this helps, and as you know, I am the 1ShoppingCart Expert so if you need anything don’t be afraid to ask.

Single Opt-In vs. Double Opt-In

Author: Tyler Sorensen

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

This is the #1 question I get from my clients:

“Do I set up my email sales campaigns with single or double opt-ins when someone signs up via email?”

I say SINGLE opt-in! WHY? It’s all about the numbers!

1ShoppingCart.com recommends the following:

“Using a double opt-in process for your mailing list is a good way to ensure a clean and trouble-free list.”

But what they don’t understand is that you are LOSING up to 60% of your opt-ins.

I have tested this! We have offered free gifts, free audios, free CDs – if they double opt-in.

But think of this… Who, when they signup for something, is going to leave your site, login to their email, and THEN click a link to get the material?

I know I don’t do that!!!

Statistically, 40 – 50% of the people will click 2 links and double opt-in. 65% if you really perfect and test your offer.

However, if you use the single opt-in option, you receive a 100% opt-in response!

That’s right, EVERYONE will get your free material AND be added to your email distribution list!

Now I know what you’re thinking… when you send all those people an email, they won’t receive it because of spam filters.

You’re right. Not everyone will receive your email.

HOWEVER, I just checked my stats and only 3% of my emails aren’t getting through to my intended recipient.

So what would you rather have?

Up to 60% of your clients who don’t complete your double opt-in and you can NEVER email? Or 3% of your single opt-in list not receive your email because of spam filters?

I think it’s a no brainer.

Here is what you need to do to setup your account with single opt-ins:

  1. Login to your 1ShoppingCart account
  2. Scroll over Email & Marketing in the main menu and click Opt-In Preferences
  3. Change the ‘Require Opt-In Verification for Webform Submissions’ from Yes to No
  4. Click Save Changes

Hope this helps and here’s to optimizing your 1ShoppingCart account AND your business!
