Your Turn: What Questions Do You Want the 1ShoppingCart Expert to Answer?

I created this blog at 1ShoppingCart™ Experts to teach you guys how to use what I think is a great piece of software to help simplify the order fulfillment process and reach customers.

You may have seen recent posts about when refunds are posted to your account, or how to make sure you’re not losing money on international orders. I’ve even written about how to help customers who want to change how often receive a recurring delivery to simplify the process.

As I thought about it, I realized that most of the tips and tricks I’ve come across with 1ShoppingCart™ with my clients relate to specific problems.

It seems to me that you guys should be asking the questions that you want to see answered here on this blog. I want to help you make your website as profitable as possible, but that only comes with knowing your specific concerns.

So, fire away and let me know what aspects of setting up an account or keeping it running are giving you a headache. Consider me aspirin that comes in several forms:

  1. If it’s a quick question, you might see me pop into the comments to address it as soon as I get to reading it. You don’t have to worry about long waits.
  2. For more involved processes, you may see the the answer as an upcoming blog post. We’ll be sure to let the asker know and credit them in the post!
  3. If you need a full-scale consultation to make sure that your business can go from scratch to fully up-and-running, you want to contact me through this site so I can assess your needs.

Three choices and whichever you choose, you’ll get rapid responses about your 1ShoppingCart™ needs from a leader in the field.

Let’s get started: What do you want me to write about and answer just for you?

  1. I cant understand why with such an advanced shopping cart, it doesn’t give my customers what they expect – a little box in the top right hand corner with their cart contents and a checkout button – like all the other e-commerce carts.

This is what they expect, and this is what they should recieve.

    - and they should be able check out without leaving my website/s.

For these reasons, I am seriously considering leaving 1SC (after having been with them for several years) as they have not moved with the times.

  2. First of all – we LOVE kickstartcart!
We are having a challenge importing data into quickbooks.
    Any tips?
    Thanks!

  3. Hey Tyler,

I just ran across this blog for the first time, and so far I’m liking what I see… This post couldn’t come at a more perfect time for me.

I have a membership site that is powered by extrememember, and at the moment I am using the paypal standard program to accept all payments. Well my membership is obviously monthly billing and the membership site supports paypal recourring billing.

However, I have just signed up for 1shoppingcart so i can put my cart, payments, autoresponder, and affiliate program all in one place. Extrememember has full 1SC integration, so everything will line up and play together nicely…

Everything except the fact that I am being told that 1SC does not support paypal rcourring billing. I have done a few searches, but all the info that I am comming up with is a few years old, so I thought it would be appropriate to ask you if this is still the case?

If so, is there a workaround for this so I can integrate the two or am I going to be stuck getting a merchant account from somewhere else?

And if so, will there still be an issue accepting paypal recourring with 1SC? Any help is appreciated regarding this issue…

Thanks so much for your time!

    Warmest Regards,
    Justin Glover

  4. Hi Tyler,

Looks like I’m the first! I hope you don’t mind, but I have a few. :) Before I get to my questions, I just want to say I really enjoy your blog posts and email lessons. There are almost no 1ShoppingCart resources out there, so I was glad to find yours.

Question #1 – I’ve seen shopping carts like InfusionSoft send emails that offer one-click opt-in for a list (or new autoresponder). Does 1SC offer this type of functionality somehow? I have some ideas on how to do it, but wanted to get your input first.

Question #2 – I use single opt-in for all signups (glad to see your post confirm this is the right thing). With 1SC, it seems that single opt-in emails are sent from separate servers from the double opt-in. I assume the double opt-in servers have a higher deliverability rate. My question is… if I keep single opt-in, yet I send a separate email with the opt-in link added, and I convince my readers to click the link to improve their deliverability, does 1SC somehow separate the two when sending broadcasts or A/R messages?

The reason I ask is that some of my subscribers have missed some of my emails (not spam or other bounce), and I want them to have a way to ensure delivery. I want double opt-in to be OPTIONAL, not forced (like some other email services).

Question #3 – What is a technical error in the bounce manager? I still get large numbers of these regularly, and awhile ago, when I asked tech support, they gave me the standard canned response (servers busy, etc.). Problem is… at the time, almost everyone who was on Hotmail and a few other providers were NOT receiving my emails. On a related note, if I receive a lot of technical errors, are re-sends automatic? Or do I need to re-send the message to those people manually with a broadcast?

Thanks for any help you can offer

    Paul

  5. Hello!

I would like to know if anyone has worked out a way to enable an affiliate in 1SC be able to promote 2 different products? Without over-riding their old URL.

E.g. If I have Job Bloggs who promoted my old telesummit in May – and is still promoting. Jo Blogs would now like to promote my new webinar in October as well. As Jo Blogs only has the one email, 1SC says he already exists on the system – is their any way he can promote 2 simultaneously?

    Many thanks in anticipation!
    Clair

  6. Is there a way to pay affiliates automatically via paypal? I know I can generate a report, mark all as paid, and download to quickbooks.

Since all my affiliate payments are made via paypal, it would be great to just click a button and everyone is paid. Is that possible?

  7. Hi Nina,

There is a way to export your affiliates via PayPal Mass-pay and then log into PayPal and only have to upload 1 file to pay endless amounts of affiliates. The process is quite simple. If you would like me to walk you through this, please email me personally at support “@” 1ShoppingCartExperts.com.

    Tyler

  8. Thanks Tyler, I had forgotten about that. I knew there was a mass pay, but was thinking it was a one-click kind of thing. I suppose a few more clicks won’t hurt me. :)
    Nina!

  9. I am puzzled as to why I cannot get 1SC to send out an opt-in email and a double opt-in email to new subscribers from the forms I created with their software. I selected yes in the box in email setup for;Require Opt-In Verification for Webform Submissions and included an opt-in message.

I have tested this feature several times by entering my name/email in the opt in form on my website…but I never get an opt-in email from 1SC.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

  10. Hi Diane,

I would recommend trying a brand new email address that is not in your shopping cart system. My guess, is that you are testing the same email address that has already been “opted in” in the past and even if you delete it out of the system, there will still be a conflict. Let me know if that works. And if you want me to test it, just give me the URL and I will put in my name and email and see what I find out.

    Tyler

  11. Hi Clair,

I’m a little confused on your question. Shoot me an email directly and I will see what I can do for you. support “@” 1ShoppingCartExperts.com.

  12. Hi Matt,

Quickbooks is a pain. :-) For that reason I have moved away from them and use Peachtree for all my accounting needs. I don’t have any tips on Quickbooks. Sorry!

    Tyler

  13. Hi Justin,

1ShoppingCart does NOT support recurring payments through Paypal. This is something I have pushed and pushed for 1ShoppingCart to implement. Submit this to them, tell them you want it, so they know more and more people want this feature.

    Tyler

  14. Hi Paul,

You asked some great questions and my next blog post will answer all your questions.

    Tyler

  15. I’d like to know more about how to pass a variable such as an email address that a user has entered to another form during an opt-in process.

Have done a search for this but it’s unclear how to do it

  16. Hi David,

This is definitely possible. There is a lot of options to complete this. We could get this done for you. Send me an email at support @ 1ShoppingCartExperts.com or call 360-355-8314 and we will get this lined up and completed.

    Tyler

  17. When you process a refund in 1SC, does this refund also get posted back to paypal? Do I need a Premier or Business Paypal account to post and process the refund back through paypal? Thanks.

  18. Hi Darrell,

Do you have “Enable PayPal PDT (Payment Data Transfer)” Enabled? If so, then I believe it is possible. I’ve never tested this personally, but I do know, you will need a Premier or Business Paypal account.

If it is not enabled, then I know you will definitely need to manually log-in to PayPal and process the refund. It will not do this automatically.

  19. I’ve been with 1 SC for about 7 years and I’ve lost count and the number of times I’ve bitched about why they can’t do these two things, but all I get in their reply is that…”my comments/ request has been forward to their development team

Needless to say, after 6 years I’m still waiting for solutions

    1. I asked them about having customized signatures based on the each specific product instead of having to have the signature that is set up in my account profile..

Answer: We’re looking at it, but it’s difficult. That was 4 years ago.

    2. If a customer gets to the payment page but then decides to click away or close the page before they click the ‘Submit Order’ there needs to be a redirect or something ) at least having that option there is still the possibility of a sales

    3. The ability to be able to have a customized ‘Submit Order’ button instead of the standard small green button . This could be in the form of an image.

  20. Hi Glen,

To answer your questions here we go. :-)

    1) Good luck with getting them to update this. It could be a while. The only way around this is to manually update each auto-responder email with it’s own signature and have the automated one by the system be very generic.

Check out what I have to say about using your signature below.

    http://www.1shoppingcartexperts.com/blog/current-hits/increase-sales-by-using-your-1shoppingcart-signature

    2) I don’t see 1ShoppingCart ever making this an option. I believe what you are asking for is an exit popup. This can be done as well. However, this isn’t a quick blog post. So email me and we will see if we can work something out. (support @ 1ShoppingCartExperts.com)

    3) I just played around with this and was able to change the order submit button. I will post a blog on how to do this next week. I have one in order for the this week so this will have to wait. If you want it done personally on your site before the next week or so, email me at support @ 1ShoppingCartExperts.com and we will see if we can work something out. Otherwise I will email you when the blog is posted.

    Hope this helps,

    Tyler

  21. Tyler,
I’m a virtual assistant. Recently, I’ve had two clients insist that friends/colleagues of theirs were able to import spreadsheets of contacts into 1sc without those contacts having to go through the 1sc double optin process. They say they got around it simply by disabling double optin in their accounts. I’m pretty sure this will not get around the double optin process when you import contacts…but I’m here to ask you if I’m wrong about that.

    Thanks ahead of time.
    Marianne

  22. Hi Marianne,

You are correct. There is no way around this. Even if you called 1ShoppingCart directly, they won’t disable this for you. All imports must go through the double opt-in process UNLESS they are previously in your 1ShoppingCart database before the import.

    Hope that helps.

    Tyler

  23. Hi Tyler,

At last… a blog by someone who actually knows their 1ShoppingCart onions!

Had to set up an account recently and found it ‘challenging’ (polite term) piecing together snippets of info and guesswork. Wish I’d found your site earlier.

If I could ask a quick question… we need to configure an affiliate program where an affiliate links to a page with a sign-up form. Once a visitor signs-up (and receives free info, etc.), they are invited to purchase a place on a programme, and at that point the affilate should receive their commission. All good so far. However, is it possible to configure the chain of events to trigger the commission ONLY if the visitor completes the form, rather than merely visiting the page? That way, people already on the mailing list (from a different source) won’t inadvertently trigger commission if they encounter an affilate ad afterwards.

I appreciate if this is one step too far for the system – might have to just accept it can’t.

    Thanks Tyler,

    Andy

  24. Hi Andy,

There are 4 ways to pay your affiliates:

    1. Per impression rate. This means you pay your affiliates for impressions generated. An impression occurs when one of your affiliate program ads (a banner, for example) is loaded in a browser or shown on an affiliate’s page and a visitor views it.

    2. Per click rate. This means you pay your affiliates for clicks generated to your site. A click is logged every time someone clicks on one of your affiliate program ads.

    3. Per lead rate. This means you pay your affiliates per lead generated. A lead represents anyone who becomes a part of your database; either by signing up for your mailing list, or by buying a product.

    4. Percentage basis. This means you pay your affiliates a percentage amount on each sale generated. This is the commission percentage that a new affiliate will earn when they refer sales.

I recommend paying on a percentage basis. That means every time someone buys your product through an affiliate link, that particular affiliate is given the commission for the sale. This way, you’re only paying affiliates when you make money. And isn’t making money the name of the game?! Not to mention this is also the industry standard.

Therefore, under the ‘Affiliate Setup’ tab set Per Impression Rate, Per Click Rate and Pay Per Lead Rate to $0.00.

Then set the First Level Commission to your percentage you want to pay your affiliates per sale. This is your default commission rate but you can change it per product.

This should take care of your issue :-)

  25. Great Blog with great information! My question: can you set up 1SC to send out reminder emails before a customer auto renews?

  26. Hi Dawn,

Unfortunately there isn’t a way to automate this process. The only way to automate this process is to create an auto-responder that automatically subscribes the customer once they purchase. Then set the auto-responder day to 25 days (assuming you bill every 30 days) then the next emails every 30 days after that. That way it will remind them 5 days before the recurring charge happens. But you will need to remember to unsubscribe them from the auto-responder once they unsubscribe from recurring billing.

    Hope that helps!

  27. 2 questions Tyler…

    1. How to change default country in the checkout form.

    2. I want to have an optin email address field and then a drop down box that has a list of cities in it. Depending on what City they input I then want to add them to a corresponding autoresponder for their City. Is that possible?

    Thanks Tyler

    David

  28. Hi David,

    1. Login, scroll over ‘Products’ and click on ‘Setup Shipping’. Next click ‘Setup Ship-To Countries’ and on this page you will see the drop-down menu of ‘Default Country on Checkout’.

    2. Sounds like an if-then statement. This can be done but will take some customize programming. If you would like us to handle this, please contact me at support @ 1shoppingcartexperts.com.

    Hope that helps,

    Tyler

  29. Thanks Tyler… that’s a great tip for the default country.

I’ll leave the if/then problem for now.

    Thanks once again

    All the best

    David

  30. Hi Tyler,

Is there a way to customize the “opt out” message that subscribers view after they unsubscribe from an autoresponder? I’d like to let them know that unsubbing from a list doesn’t cancel a payment.

    Thanks Tyler,

    Lisa

  31. Hi Lisa,

This is a request we have asked for from 1ShoppingCart for sometime now. Unfortunately at this time there isn’t a way to tailor the “opt out” message or even the “opt out” page.

There is an option however, you could put it at the end of your signature. Below is a link to an article that shows you how to tailor your signature to perfection and you could put your message under #5 – The Unsubscribe Message.

    http://www.1shoppingcartexperts.com/blog/current-hits/increase-sales-by-using-your-1shoppingcart-signature

    Hope this helps,

    Tyler

  32. Thanks Tyler, I like that idea!

  33. Kathleen Anderson July 2, 2011 at 10:51 AM

    Hi Tyler,
I have set up a custom web form for people to sign up for a teleconference. What is happening is when they sign up, they arrive just fine and the auto responders are working great, but when they sign up it defaults to a affiliate in the 1″Referred by” section and that affiliate has nothing to do with the call. I don’t see where this can be changed or why it is happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Kathleen

  34. Hi Kathleen,

It sounds as if the “visitor” to the web page is already in your 1shoppingcart account and tagged by an affiliate. If a “visitor” comes from an affiliate link and gets tagged by an affiliate, they will be tagged as referred by that affiliate for as long as they are in the system.

If they are new “visitors” and not in your system, let me know as your script on your page may be compromised and I would recommend walking through the “Domain Masking” under the “Setup” tab once again.

Feel free to send me the page where “visitors” are signing up, and I will investigate this further.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  35. Kathleen Anderson July 3, 2011 at 7:18 PM

Hello Tyler. Thanks for the response!

    http://www.swatinstitute.com/infocall/

I filled it out myself, and when I log in to the contacts, it shows me as “Referred by” an affiliate who is not associated with the autoresponder. I was already a contact in the system. Existing members it shows “Referred by” no one. Weird! :)

By the way, I was looking how I can create a profile here, upload photo, etc.. But am not seeing a log in area?

Thanks again… and, you have a great resourceful site. Glad I found it :)

    Kathleen

  36. Hi Kathleen,

I just signed up for your call. It was under my name “Tyler Sorensen” and email address “support {@} 1shoppingcartexperts.com”. Was I tagged as refereed by an affiliate? Everything looked like it was setup correctly.

Next, to login and create a profile the link is in the ‘Meta’ section on every page of the blog, located on the bottom of the right hand side bar.

    Talk to you soon,

    Tyler

  37. Kathleen Anderson July 5, 2011 at 12:05 PM

Thanks Tyler! You did not show up as a referred by anyone.

Log in is taking me to your WP Admin log in panel. I must be missing something :)

Thanks for looking into the affiliate issue.

    Kathleen

  38. Hi Kathleen,

This tells me that you clicked an affiliate link at some point and you need to delete your cookies so you aren’t tied to that affiliate. I’m glad you got it figured out.

    Talk to you soon!

    Tyler

  39. Hi Tyler — thanks so much for all the excellent tips here on your blog, and for inviting us to bombard you with questions! =^)

Here’s mine: Is there any way to DISABLE PayPal as a payment option?

Ideally, I’d like to disable it just for large ticket items (like coaching), while keeping it as an option for less expensive info products. But if I can’t do that, then I’d like to just not offer it at all.

There doesn’t seem to be any “off” button for PayPal.

    Thanks!

  40. Hi Kathy,

    I enjoy answering questions. :-)

I’m assuming you are using ‘Paypal Website Payments Pro’ and you have another gateway setup besides Paypal. If this is the case then you can not disable Paypal payment options for specific products. But you can disable Paypal for all products.

To do this, log in to your shopping cart account, scroll over ‘Setup’ and click ‘Gateway Setup’. Next delete out your ‘PayPal Email’, make sure nothing is checked, and delete out your ‘Enable PayPal PDT (Payment Data Transfer)’ if you have one in there. Next click ‘Save Changes’ located at the bottom.

This will take off Paypal as a payment option on your shopping cart.

    Hope this helps. :-)

Hi Tyler, is it possible to NOT have an affiliate receive notice when someone they refer becomes an affiliate as well? We don’t use 2nd tier affiliates and the message they receive is confusing. any work around would be greatly appreciated! Kathleen

  42. Hi Kathleen,

This is an automated email generated by the system and unfortunately you can’t turn it off. I can’t think of a work around on this one. I would suggest writing to 1shoppingcart directly and submitting this request as a future feature.

It would be great to have this feature (I’ve requested it myself) as I always recommend setting up affiliate programs as only a 1 tier program.

    Hope this helps.

    Tyler

  43. Hi Tyler,

Is it possible to auto populate a person’s information (like first name, last name, email etc) on 1sc checkout form by passing the values from my site.

    Matt

  44. Hi Tyler,

Actually i want to auto-populate the amember signup form information’s (like first name, last name, email etc) to 1SC checkout form. Is it possible?
    Please Help.

    Thanks,
    Matt

  45. Hi Matt,

Unfortunately this isn’t possible as 1ShoppingCart users do not have access to the specific fields on the order form. This is all automated by 1ShoppingCart and we’ve tried this in the past with no luck. Wish we could. :-)

    All the best,

    Tyler

  46. Hi Tyler,

    Two noob Q’s for you:

    1) When you have a product purchase subscribe a contact on an autoresponder do they get a double opt-in message?

    2) We are taking a lot of registration variables on our website, then linking to 1SC for payment. Is there any way to pass a variable to 1SC for an order just so we can tie the data together? (like a transaction ID)

  47. Hi Gen,

    Your answers are below:

    1. No, if someone buys they are automatically considered double opted-in.

    2. Unfortunately this isn’t possible as 1ShoppingCart users do not have access to the specific fields on the order form. This is all automated by 1ShoppingCart and we’ve tried this in the past with no luck. Wish we could.

    Hope that helps,

    Tyler

  48. Thank you, I appreciate the answers.

You are doing a great job for people wanting to learn about 1ShoppingCart!

    Gen

  49. I’ve got a few questions and comments…
    1) Recurring payments ARE possible with 1SC and PayPal. I have it set up. It was a royal hassle, but I did it. Contact PayPal and prepare to be very patient with the set-up.

    2) Question for Tyler – how can I make my sales checkout fields be inside my Sales Page. I want to have everything in one page, without a click-through to the checkout.

    3) If this is not possible, how can I have an email and name field leading to the checkout page so that if someone abandons, I can add them to a separate list and give them a different follow-up offer?

    Great site! Thank you! Andy

  50. Burning Question: How do I fix that wimpy little “Submit Order” button on the checkout? I can hear the money flying out the window as I type this… You had mentioned that this would be an upcoming post back in February. Perdy please with sugar on top? :-)

  51. The whole “having to click a button on the sales page to get to the checkout form” I have always assumed must erode conversion. So I had this crazy idea. Has anyone ever tried using the top HTML field on the checkout page for the sales page copy so you can have a “one-page checkout”? Theoretically, there should be no length limit on the html in that section (right?). So you could theoretically avoid any need for a click-through abandonment risk and have all copy and checkout in one contiguous page? Thoughts?

  52. Hi Andy,

You would have to put your salesletter in the top html of your product in the shopping cart. 1ShoppingCart at this time doesn’t allow you to host the shopping cart pages on your site and there is no length limit on the top html section of the products.

We have put the salesletter directly on the order form in the past and didn’t see a huge increase in conversions. We didn’t test this verse the normal checkout process at the same time as we wanted to see how it converted first.

One thing to keep in mind, if you put the salesletter directly on 1ShoppingCart’s product URL, you will want to mask the URL so your visitors don’t see the ugly URL 1ShoppingCart provides you and they see your site URL instead. (Make sure it’s secured as well so the URL reads httpS://www.yoursite.com/…)

With regards to the shopping cart Submit button, I will personally message you how to do this. It’s not as easy as it sounds, and it will need some customization on your part.

I’m also going to ask you how you solved the PayPal Recurring problem. If this is something you have solved, then you will be a hero :-)

    Talk soon,

    Tyler

  53. Hi Andy,

To answer your final question to #3 above, you could setup a “Custom Form” and a few “Auto-Responders” to get this done.

First, setup an auto-responder called “Prospects For Product 1″. Here you would create the auto-responder series to follow up with the Prospects until they buy.

Next, create another auto-responder called “Customers For Product 1″. This is for those who buy.

In the “Customers For Product 1″ auto-responder settings, unsubscribe “Prospects For Product 1″ by checking the box titled “Prospects For Product 1″ under “Unsubscribe From”. This will ensure Customers won’t receive your follow-up messages as if they were a Prospect.

Then under the product setting for the specific product you want this setup for, subscribe the buyers to the “Customers For Product 1″ auto-responder by checking the “Customers For Product 1″ auto-responder under “Autoresponders”.

Next create a “Custom Form” under the “Email & Marketing” tab in your 1ShoppingCart account. Set the “Thank You URL” in your “Custom Form” to your “1 Step Checkout URL” for the specific product you want this set for. This will bring your prospects to the checkout page of your product when they submit their name and email. Put this form on your website and just like that you are done.

Prospects will be signed up for the “Prospects For Product 1″ auto-responder and unsubscribed when they buy.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Tyler

  54. Hi Tyler:)

This is probably an amazingly DUMB question, but I simply want to view the web form I created (like I was able to in Aweber), and the only thing I can see is to be able to CREATE a new one. Is that possible, please? Thanks for your help!!

    Connie

  55. Hi Connie,

Unfortunately you can’t view the web form you create through 1ShoppingCart’s interface like Aweber. To view the web form you will have to copy the code into a html editor like Dreamweaver.

    Hope this helps,

    Tyler

  56. Let me know, as an affiliate how to track my sales in my affiliate account.

    Here are more info.

I am an affiliate to a popular product which uses 1shoppingcart to sell. In my affiliate account, i can see sales, clicks etc, but not the data regarding where from exactly my referrals are converted?

How to track sales as an affiliate?

  57. Hi Pascal,

You can view the individual traffic for all your ads. Located beneath each ad, banner and/or text links are statistics for impressions, clicks, leads, and number of sales. By determining which ads are working best for you, you can use this tool to increase your success.

This would also be a question for the merchant as they may have more detailed tracking behind the scenes.

    Hope this helps,

    Tyler

  58. Hi Tyler,

Back with a new question. At the bottom of the checkout form there is a Buyer Agreement Policy. I can see in setup where to toggle this on and off. But where can I edit this text?

As always, thank you for your help.

    Gen

  59. Hi Tyler,

Hope all is well. I have been trying to understand how to add more than one image for one product. And it’s just impossible. And I refuse to pay $10 for the answer because I’m pretty sure it’s a pretty silly one :p.

    Regards,

    Emely

  60. Hi Tyler,

Wondering if it’s possible to move someone from one autoresponder to another after a certain time.

    As in…

    Day 0 – email 1
    Day 4 – email 2
    Day 6 – email 3
    Day 10 – move to AR #123456

    Thanks,
    Paul

  61. Hi Emely,

Where are you trying to get more product images to show up? You can easily add multiple images to products by clicking the ‘Images’ tab under each specific product settings.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  62. Hi Paul,

I’ve racked my brain on how to do this and can’t seem to find a solution. I’m starting to believe this isn’t possible.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  63. Hello Tyler

I have seen your website a few minutes ago while looking for my problem’s solution. My problem is about getting payment. I build my own website to sell digital product. It is my first attempt to sell something on my own website, so I am newbie’s newbie :) I hope you can solve my problem because 1shoppingcart didn t respond my questions for 3 days. My problem is about getting payment. I have a business account on paypal and I could manage to build gateway between 1sc and paypal with website payment pro or whatever it is. I wanted to test that is working or not with my own card but it didn t work. It is normal because I tried to use same card within my paypal account. Then I tried two different credit cards of my family members and they didn’t work too. I didn’t use them in my paypal account anytime. Process is like this; fill requirement fields, then write credit card information then click to submit button. Red box and said ”unsuccessful payment” I also used different e-mail address for it and ı received an e-mail about payment details and show me that ”status : pending”. I can also see order on my 1sc account and status is pending but there is no button how i can accept. Did they receive money? If they did, there is no money in my paypal account-ı filled my paypal information-. What should I do to build working cart button troubleless and how can I sell my product successfully?

    Thank You
    Kindest Regards

  64. Hi Selim,

It sounds as if your gateway settings inside your 1ShoppingCart account isn’t setup properly. When you log into your account, scroll over ‘Setup’ and click ‘Gateway Setup’. Here is where you want to ensure your PayPal account is connected to your 1shoppingcart account. It’s hard to tell you how to do this without seeing your account. Feel free to email me at support @ 1shoppingcartexperts.com if you need further assistance.

    Hope this helps,

    Tyler

  65. Hi Tyler,

My client wants to add all buyers to their newsletter AR as well as the AR for the product they’re purchasing…

    BUT…

They want to give them to option to opt-out of this on the order page.

Is there a way to have a pre-checked ‘Yes, Add me to your monthly newsletter’ box on the shopping cart check-out pages that will add them to the correct AR?

    Thanks,
    Paul

  66. Hi Tyler,

I have a successful website and a newsletter that I want to move to 1shoppingcart.

I send out two things to my newsletter – articles and promotions.

I would like my opt-in form to subscribe users to 2 auto-responders at once, so that if they click ‘unsubscribe’ on the promotions newsletter, they still get the advice newsletter. Preferably it will transfer them to a page that tells them what is going on.

Is that an easy thing to do with 1shoppingcart?

  67. Hi Paul,

There isn’t an easy way to do this on the checkout page that I’m aware of. Sorry I couldn’t be any help on that one.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  68. Hi Magnus,

When someone goes to unsubscribe, 1ShoppingCart will show the subscriber every list they are subscribed too. Then the subscriber can unsubscribe from any lists individually or from all lists altogether.

One thing to think about when switching to 1ShoppingCart is when you import your list, you’ll need to have them double opt-in. This will lose a lot of your subscribers.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  69. Hi Tyler,
Great service you are providing here, since trying to get service from 1SC can be difficult. In regards to the problem with recurring payments with Paypal and the affiliate system. If I have a product that is set as a recurring product and it is paid for by Paypal does the affiliate still get credit for that 1st sale even though we know they will not be billed again automatically? Is it or isn’t it counted for the affiliate with at least that first sale?

  70. Hi Mike,

It all depends on your settings inside 1ShoppingCart and specifically under the product settings. Shoot me an email and lets setup a time to chat. If we do a screen share, I could answer this question for you in less than a minute. (support @ 1shoppingcartexperts.com)

    Talk to you soon,

    Tyler

  71. Tyler
This is a great resource, so thanks for keeping it running. I’ve read bac through the history but can’t find an answer to this question…

I want to use the secondary email address for notifications of purchases so I can inform a 3rd party that there is some fulfilment necessary. However, this 3rd party only needs to be told when a customer makes a purchase of 3 specific products from my shop (NOT all/any the products in my shop).

Is there a way to share customer information with a 3rd party on a product by product basis ?

This may be using this secondary email field or by using the API (which I don’t really understand if I’m honest !!).

    Thanks
    Rich

  72. Hi Rich,

This is something you can do through ‘Autoresponders’. Create a new ‘Autoresponder’ and tie it to the product you want the 3rd party to receive.

If you don’t know how to do that, let me know.

Next, create a ‘New Message’ in the ‘Autoresponder’ and in the ‘Alternate Destination’ put in your 3rd party email address here. This will send your 3rd party an the email and NOT the customer. Then in the email put in the ‘Merge Codes’ you want your 3rd party to see with all your customers information.

Hope that helps and let me know if you need clarification on anything.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  73. Tyler

    Thanks for replying so quickly.

I’m OK with linking a product sale to the start of an A/R sequence. I’ve now noticed the Alternate Destination field too (hadn’t ever considered that before). So, if it’s alternate and not “additional” then I guess that means the 3rd party gets the email and NOT the customer, right ?

Great so far – the merge codes are effectively the customer details from the Shopping Cart (I can see the standard fields and email address), but I’d like to include product name too. I can’t see that in either Merge Codes 1 or 2.

I guess the option here is to make the title of the A/R message refer to the product code.

Speed of ‘fulfilment’ is quite important here. Do you have any view as to whether using an A/R with a 0 days delivery (ie. “today”) will reach the alternate destination immediately – or can there be a delay.

By using the Order Confirmation Email options, I pretty much get instant messages on sales…

    Thanks again

    Rich

  74. Hi Rich,

Alternate Destination is an “alternate” and not an “in addition to” field.

I would recommend adding the Product Name to the subject of the email, or since it’s an email, just write it in the body of the email itself. Whichever is easier for your fulfillment house.

“Day 0″ means instantaneous. That means, your email will go out right away. If you put 1 day, then it will go out the following day.

    Hope that answers your questions.

    Tyler

  75. Hi Tyler,
Is it possible to use oneshoppingcart to create a newsletter to my affiliates and within that newsletter embed a link that when sent is the correct affiliate link for that specific affiliate? I have been told that this only works for one primary or default program and not for my other affiliate programs?

For example -One affiliate newsletter goes to all my affiliates. In that newsletter I promote a specific product. I want the link in that newsletter to be for that specific product and go to the sales page for that specific product AND pick up the affiliate id that goes with the affiliate who is receiving the newsletter – but I do not want to send an individual newsletter to each person. I want to mail to my list all at once.

I know I can have the link that goes to the specific product, my question is how to I get 1SC to autopopulate the newsletter with the correct link for each affiliate.

    Thank you for your brainspace,
    Margaret

  76. Hi Margaret,

Unfortunately what you are requesting isn’t possible inside 1ShoppingCart.

This is another reason why I only recommend one 1ShoppingCart account per website, as well as only setting up one affiliate program.

Keep in mind, when setting up multiple affiliate programs inside one account, you can only assign a product to one affiliate program. Therefore, if an affiliate referral comes through one affiliate program link, and buys a product tied to another affiliate program, that affiliate won’t get credit for the sale.

    Hope that helps.

    Tyler

  77. Tyler,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
    Margaret

  78. Hi, Tyler -
Just found you – hoping you can help. I have a new WordPress theme called Profits Theme for a membership site that I am building. It claims to integrate with 1ShoppingCart autoresponders after a person buys on Paypal, which is, along with Clickbank, the main ways that the membership site knows someone has purchased paid membership. I can see how to manually add the buyer’s email, but is there a way in 1ShoppingCart to have an email go to them and subscribe the person automatically (I know that it will still require the double-opt in confirmation, which is OK with me for this purpose). Thanks!

  79. Hi Robbie,

I would recommend speaking with the creator of the Profits Theme as they would know how to easily do this and save me time from going through the entire checkout process and learning how the data is passed.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  80. Tyler

I’ve been trying to sort this now for about10 days, but can’t get it to work…. please help.

How do I go about sending a broadcast email to all the people who did NOT open a previous broadcast email ?

Do I need to use a tracker ? If so, how.

    Many thanks
    Rich

  81. Hi Rich,

This is possible and here are the instructions you should use:

#1. Create an autoresponder and subscribe all clients in your database.

#2. Create a second autoresponder named “Opened – Read Emails”. (Don’t subscribe anyone. This will come later)

#3. Go to your past broadcasts and under the column “Opens” click the number of people listed. This will give you a list of everyone who opened that specific broadcast.

#4. Select all clients and then at the bottom subscribe these clients to the autoresponder you created in step #2.

#5. Next, scroll over “Contacts” in the main menu and click “Search, Edit & Add”. Search for all clients in the new autoresponder you created in step #2 and then UNSUBSCRIBE them from the autoresponder you created in step #1.

Then when you want to send the clients who didn’t open your previous broadcasts an email, all you need to do is send the broadcast to the clients you created in step #1.

    Hope that helps,

    Tyler

  82. Tyler

    That’s genius !

Thanks SO much for your help.

It seems mad that 1SC doesn’t have this functionality built in already.

Your work-around is a great process though (and brilliantly clearly explained).

    Have a great weekend.

I have my store, http://www.kkPacific.com, using Word Press. I am not sure how my 1shopping cart is to be set up in conjuntion with my Word Press store. I am not sure what goes into the Store URL in the Store Settings area. Right now it is the default http://www.mcssl.com/store/kkpacific with the customize button next to it. Please advise what I should customize it to. What would be the link that I would use in my word press store, http://www.kkpacific.com to link to the shopping cart? Is there any other steps I need to take to set up my shopping cart with my store? Any “kokua” (support) would be great!

    Ho’o maika’i (appreciated)
    Kana (Dan)

  84. Hi Rich,

    I’m glad it helped. :-)

    All the best,

    Tyler

  85. Hi Dan,

I have never worked with WordPress store.

I do know you can’t customize the URL of mcssl.com/store/kkpacific inside 1ShoppingCart to show they are still on your site (Ex: kkpacific.com/store).

I wouldn’t recommend using an iframe or anything of that nature as it may cause conflicts.

Sorry I couldn’t be of much help.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  86. Hi Tyler
I can’t find an option to customise the submit button on the optin code. I know I can change the text, but can I upload my own button and insert it in the code as href= ?

I’m just not sure if this is possible – I have been googling everywhere trying to find this!

    Thanks!
    Denise

  87. Hi Denise,

Send over your code to support @ 1shoppingcartexperts.com as well as a description of what you are looking to do and I will take care of the rest.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  88. Hi Tyler,

Wow! FINALLY some helpful information on 1ShoppingCart, I have been going crazy trying to set up my account! I have used Aweber for my autoresponder so far (and really loved it!) and am currently transferring to 1shoppingcart because I want to be able to sell products on my website… Anyway, my question is about web forms! Would I need to use something like Dream Weaver to customise my own forms… they are really ugly the ones generated by 1SC and I don’t know enough HTML to design my own? Or is there another software programme I can use to customise my forms? Thanks again!!!

    Blessings,

    Mette

  89. Hi Mette,

Using Dreamweaver is the best to customize the forms the way you want them. 1ShoppingCart gives you the general code and it’s up to you to make them look pretty. :-)

Hope that helps and let me know if you have any further questions.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  90. Hi Tyler,
What an awesome site with excellent information! I do a lot of work in 1ShoppingCart for a number of clients and I have finally been stumped!

Just recently I have seen where someone has 1 shopping cart button, but it brings up 2 items(products) into the cart – they can choose which one to keep and which one to discard (or have 0) – they implement 2 different pay options – one is full pay and the other is 2-pay.

How is this accomplished? I can think of a number of ways this would be useful, but for the life of me I can not seem to figure out how to make this work.

Any thoughts on this? I would love to hear your feedback on it.

    Thanks so much!
    Tammie

  91. Tyler,

Great site. Is there a way when someone clicks on the buy now button that they remain on the same page to purchase additional items with a view cart button at the top without having to hit the continue shopping button and go back and purchase additional items?

    Best Regards,
    Jacki

  92. I am hoping you can answer this…I have only 20 products, but more than several of my products have quantity discounts. On the sales page itself, I have a table explaining the price breakdown. When they click on the “add to cart” button and the page changes to the 1SC checkout page, there is a popup window that shows the quantity break down and pricing structure. That is fine, you can close it and then choose your quantity and continue shopping if you like.

The issue is when they choose another product, and “add to cart”, the pop up window shows up again, and on each added product to the cart.

It is irritating to say the least.

Is there a way to disable the pop up?

  93. Hi Tammie,

Can you send me a link with an example so I can see this in action? I have a few suggestions but would like to see an example to come up with the best solution.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  94. Hi Jacki,

This can be accomplished however it will take custom programming. Please email me at support @ 1shoppingcartexperts.com and we can get this rolling for you.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  95. Hi Biz,

Unfortunately there isn’t a fast solution for this as it’s a system wide option and not product specific. Sorry I can’t be more helpful, let me know if I can answer anything else for you.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  96. Hi Tyler,

    Great info here!

I have a continuing problem with an HTML newsletter template in 1SC.

There is a 990 character maximum code line length issue neither 1SC nor I have been able to solve.

When setting up our newsletter, some lines of code are longer than the maximum allowed by 1SC. You need to add a hard break in those lines to avoid random word spacing issues in the newsletter when it is sent.

We know how to do this and add the hard breaks where necessary and send a test — everything fine.

However, when we go back into the broadcast to send, the hard breaks we have added have disappeared (yes, we saved the document). It doesn’t matter if we go in to make a simple change or don’t make any changes at all. The hard returns are gone and the newsletter has random spacing in random words throughout.

1SC’s answer is to add the hard returns every time we test/test/test/send, etc. What a pain in the neck.

Do you know anything about this? Is there anything you can suggest that we may not have tried?

We are setting up the newsletter in Dreamweaver, saving it, and importing it back into 1SC. The already told us that their own HTML editor “is as good a Microsoft Word,” which basically means that it sucks as an HTML editor.

    Best,
    Geri

  97. I’d love to know how to know how to add a “subscribe” to my list box on the purchase page for a list that is not hosted by 1SC.

You can see what I’m talking about if you go to buy the product on this site: yourbigbeautifulbookplan.com. The two women who created this product each have separate lists that are not in 1SC. How does the checkbox work?

I want to do that for a 1SC purchase and an email list in iContact.

  98. Hi Jenny,

I like how they have done this. By looking at the code they have used “Options” under the specific product. I can’t confirm this without buying the product, but I’m guessing they have a custom built “Thank You” page that passes the customers information on.

Unfortunately at this time we don’t have the time to take this project on but I would talk to a programmer who could help!

    Hope this helps,

    Tyler

  99. Hi Geri,

An html editor as good as “Microsoft Word”… That doesn’t do us any good. :-)

We do exactly the same thing you do. We create the emails in Dreamweaver and then cut and paste them in. Unfortunately we haven’t found a work around as the files that need editing are hosting by 1ShoppingCart and not edible on our end.

    All the best,

    Tyler

  100. Geri
I use an online editor that formats the emails for plain text and html. It adds 3 spaces before each line so MS Outlook won’t join the lines back together again.

    http://internetbusinessmastermind.com/email-formatting

I’ve also heard of commercial programs you can buy but this is free, so I cut and paste each newsletter/autoresponder.

  101. Hi Tyler,

I’ve got a client who uses 1ShoppingCart as the back end to sell downloadable audios.

1ShoppingCart has a 7MB file size limit for digital products. Her files generally run between 20-40MB. So we set her up with an AmazonS3 account to store the big files.

Do you know if there is a way to create a digital product in 1ShoppingCart when the file is stored elsewhere? We’ve looked at a couple of alternatives, if we can’t, but they are clunky.

One way is to make the product an autoresponder, and put the link to the file in her AmazonS3 account directly in the autoresponder email. The problem with that is that when someone clicks on the link in their email they are taken directly to the mp3 file, which then starts playing in their browser without providing a way to right click and download it.

Another way is to zip the file and put the zip file on AmazonS3, and use that link in the autoresponder. Their browser will then prompt them to download and save.

A third way is to send them to a custom thank you page upon purchase, and have the link to the AmazonS3 location in that page. This is optimal from the purchaser’s perspective, because they can be instructed to right click and save the file in that page. It’s not optimal from the merchant’s perspective, because the download isn’t as secure as it would be if it were managed fully by 1ShoppingCart.

Ideally, of course, we’d like to create a digital product in 1ShoppingCart, have 1ShoppingCart manage (and secure) the download process, and still make this as easy as possible for her clients, some of whom are not terribly techno-savvy.

Have you ever run across the large file size issue before? How do you suggest we get around it?

    Thanks,

    Win

  102. Hi Win,

We have run across this issue many of times. Unfortunately there isn’t an easy solution and trust me, we have tried many. :-)

What we use is DLGuard for all of our clients. It protects against theft as links expire at any interval you set, at the same time allowing you to use any link (like Amazon S3) for users to download your files.

This is the best solution that we found that works.

    Tyler

  103. Thanks, Tyler. That’s what I was afraid of.

Sheesh! You’d think this would be an easy fix, wouldn’t you? I’m not asking that they change their file size limit; I just want to host the files somewhere else!

    Win

  104. Hey Tyler –

I am setting up a sales funnel for a client who uses 1shoppingcart. The issue we are running into is that if a visitor clicks on a “Buy Now” link from her page, goes to the checkout page, then decides to leave the checkout for any reason and goes back to the site and clicks the “Buy Now” again, they are getting multiple copies of the product in their cart, which is obviously not what we want.

This particular site is for high-dollar seminar, so suddenly seeing a double charge in the cart could obviously scare away potential customers. Is there any way to set up the product so that if a customer clicks the “Buy Now” button more than once it will only put a maximum of one product in the cart? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Julia

  105. Hi Julia,

At the end of the product URL to the order form all you need to do is add the following:

    &qty=1

This will take care of that issue. :-)

    All the best,

    Tyler

  106. Hi Tyler,
    Great site! Very insightful!
Quick question regarding affiliates… How does 1shoppingcart track affiliate activity… if someone joins my list per an affiliate link and then purchases something down the line (from any one of my websites), will the referring affiliate receive credit for the commission?
    thanks in advance…
    Karla

  107. Hi Karla,

There are a lot of factors that could affect the answer to your question. The short answer is 1ShoppingCart uses cookies to track affiliate orders.

Here is a great article that explains how cookies are used for tracking.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie

When someone signs up for your email list in 1ShoppingCart their account is tied to the referring affiliate, so if they purchase down the road the affiliate will get credit for the sale. (As long as the customer buys within the cookie duration)

    Hope that helps,

    Tyler

  108. Here is a question for you;
I have a recurring biling members-only club established.
I want to provide a freee 30 day trial.
How do I set recurring billing to delay 30 days from time of regiatration/
    Thanks.
    Mike

  109. Hi Mike,

For the specific product you want this to occur on, do the following.

    1. Set the product to $0
    2. Under the ‘Recurring’ tab set ‘Charge Every days’ to 30
    3. Leave your ‘Delay First Charge’ blank
    4. Set your ‘Recurring Price’

Set all the other fields under all tabs to the settings you desire and this should take care of your problem.

    All the best,

    Tyler
